“My name is Sengthavy, and I am 75 years old. I never had the chance to go to school. I grew up in a poor family, where I helped my family grow rice in the upland rice fields. We never had paddy field of our own, which is much easier to cultivate and has better rice yields. As a result, we usually grew up without enough rice. I now live with my daughter and son-in-law, and their 3 children. I have 3 children of my own, but none of them went to school either, because we were never able to afford school clothes for them. Unfortunately, my grandchildren are illiterate too. I hope that their children will be able to go to school.
