“These past three months, I have been healthy, and I have been receiving support from my son to help me with shifting cultivation on my land (afterwards, I will go to help him on his land). I have to do most things on my own cooking, cleaning, collecting water and firewood – so my biggest worry is getting sick and not being able to afford treatment, with nobody to look after me. I have enough rice to eat, thanks to my shifting cultivation, but in general my nutrition is poor. I’ve forgotten what meat tastes like, as I only eat vegetables or, once in a while during the rainy season, snails or small fish from the stream.
