“I have just finished harvesting rice from my shifting cultivation, and took 3 sacks of rice which will last me the next month. I still have 10 sacks of rice on the fields to be harvested, but this is not enough for the whole year; it will only last me about 6 months. It’s been a good yield this year but I’ve been able to harvest less than I could last year, as my wife was still alive then and was able to help me both to plant and to harvest. I have asked for some help from my cousin. My son has married in the last 3 months, and lives in my house with me, my youngest daughter, and my daughter-in-law. My older daughter lives in this village, but with her husband in a different house.
