“My name is Oun, and I’m 35 years old. My husband passed away 5 years ago, so I am the head of my household. I was born in this village, and grew up helping my parents grow rice in the uplands. My mother died when I was 13 years old, and my father remarried. Life was difficult then, since my new mother did not look after my sister and I. When I was 14, my sister and I decided to move into our own house, and support ourselves by selling labour and forage from the forest. Neither my sister nor I had the chance to go to school.
