“My main income over the past three months has been collecting a cassava-like crop from the forest, which I can sell for 20,000 kip (2.5 USD) each collection. My daughter last visited me from Thailand at the start of Buddhist lent in July. She gave me 3,000 baht (approximately 100 USD) but took 1,000 baht back before she left. This is all the support I received from my daughter in the past three months; she hasn’t sent any more money back because she’s saving for legal services to process her documents to allow her to work legally in Thailand.
