Profile of RLP Beneficiaries at Baseline

The Resilient Livelihoods for the Poor (RLP) component of the Social Protection and Sustainable Livelihoods Project (SPSL), managed by Maxwell Stamp PLC (MSP) and funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of the Government of Australia, recently recruited its first cohort of beneficiary households. The cohort contains a total of 613 households numbering over 3,100 individuals from three districts (Lao-Ngam, Soukhouma and Xepon). Given differences in geography, ecology and economic development of these three districts, it is not surprising that there is quite some variation in beneficiary profile.
In this short paper, extracted from a more detailed analysis of the baseline survey for cohort-1, the profile of a “typical” beneficiary at baseline is extracted from the overall survey data and attempts little disaggregation by district. In three complementary papers, profiles are developed fully for beneficiary households disaggregated by district.
