An interesting opinion piece marking 100 years since the birth of Puey Ungphakorn, a top economist and former Bank of Thailand governor admired by many Thais. The article reflects on one of Puey’s most famous writings: The Quality of Life from Womb to Tomb, which many modern social scholars refer back to when describing “equal opportunity” from a Thailand context, specifically access to good nutrition (including nutrition to the pregnant mothers), access to good education, suitable working conditions, healthcare, pensions and so on.
