ILO Social Protection Platform

The ILO Social Protection Platform is the International Labour Office’s global knowledge sharing tool to extend social protection.The platform aims to facilitate the exchange of information and ides, capture and document experiences, identify knowledge gaps and facilitate the creation of knowledge through the promotion of innovation. The platform, developed and run by the ILO Social Protection Department, provides an international interdisciplinary knowledge sharing environment and technical assistance services for the extension of social security.

Social Protection Floor Initiative

The Social Protection Floor is a global social policy approach to ensure universal access to essential social services and income security. The Social Protection Floor Initiative is an inter-agency website that acts as a gateway to support a growing number of countries in their endeavours to build social protection systems.

The World Bank: Social Protection and Labour Home

The World Bank supports social protection and labor programs in developing countries as a central part of its mission to reduce poverty through sustainable and inclusive growth. The site contains extensive data and toolkits on Social Protection and links to other World Bank focus area sites, such as Safety Nets & Transfers and Impact Evaluation. Of particular interest is ASPIRE: The Atlas of Social Protection – Indicators of Resilience and Equity. ASPIRE is the World Bank’s premier compilation of Social Protection and Labor (SPL) indicators gathered from officially-recognised international household surveys in order to analyse the distributional and poverty impact of Social Protection and Labor programs. ASPIRE aims to meet the increasing demand on comparable and up-to-date SPL data from policymakers, practitioners and other stakeholders.

International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) @ UNDP

The IPC-IG’s mission is to promote policy dialogue and facilitate learning between developing countries around innovative social policies for inclusive growth. The IPC-IG has disseminated over 1000 policy-oriented research publications that provide useful insights on various issues related to inclusive growth strategies. For Social Protection, the IPC-IG’s work centres on:

  • Design and Impact Evaluations of Social Protection Programmes in Developing Countries;
  • Analysis of Food Security and Support for Smallholder Farmers.

Pension Watch

Pension watch is a comprehensive online resource on non-contributory (social) pensions. The website has a wide range of publications and country evidence to provide a global overview on social pensions, and their role in development. It aims to become the most comprehensive knowledge base on social pensions. Pension watch has been developed by HelpAge International with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The Centre for Social Protection (CSP) supports a global network of partners working to mainstream social protection in development policy and encourage social protection systems and instruments that are comprehensive, long-term, sustainable and pro-poor. The CSP is a research initiative managed by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS).
